AD74: Coastal Central Orange County.
What are Assembly District Delegates?
Every two years, the CA Democrats elect 7 self-identified females and 7 other than self-identified females from each Assembly District in CA as delegates to the state party. Those who are elected will have a chance to vote for the new party chair and other leadership. The race is hotly contested and will determine how welcoming, grassroots-focused and innovative the party becomes or how beholden it will remain to big money interests.
Delegates elect Party officers, endorse candidates for statewide, legislative and congressional office, attend the annual convention, network with other Democrats, represent your constituency, promote the California Democratic Party agenda, and vote to endorse resolutions and ballot measures.
You get 14 votes for delegates, 1 of which you must also vote for Executive Board Representative.

CD 48 Elected Sanders National Delegate for 2015 Primaries, Adem Board 2018, Exec Board Member, Membership VP of the California Democratic Council
Anne Mohr is the Assembly Delegate and Executive Board member in District 74. Her political experience, in addition to being a National Delegate that represented CD 48 in the 2015 primary, includes having been active in politics since the early 90’s. In New Jersey, she ran for City Council and also held office as an elected Municipal Committee member for ten years, the last two years of which was voted Vice-Chair and then named Chairperson.
In her two-year tenure as AD 74 EBoard member, she continues work on various projects which include rules proposals that through hard-fought efforts several have been implemented as well as the election of a new Chair of the CDP. Though the candidate supported and campaigned for did not win, as it is now known, the loss was an even greater blow to the party’s moral core because the integrity of the party leadership was brought into question and her work is ongoing to rebuild leadership and all that it entails.
Additionally, she is the Membership Vice President of the California Democratic Council, which is a progressive umbrella organization of Democratic clubs that supports clubs in order to build leadership and expand grassroots democratic engagement to accomplish political outcomes that serve the people and provide them with representation and influence within the California Democratic Party.
Effecting progressive change within the California Democratic organization has been an ongoing effort. Her goal remains to work to ensure that the party stands for the people. That elected Democratic officials carry out the objectives of a progressive platform and be accountable to the people.

I am respectfully asking you support our entire slate of members who have contributed on a faithful basis to the CDP from the 72nd AD and that is the Progressive Blue Slate.
Hello, my name is Sandi Aduna. I believe in the power of, by, and for the people. This is why I am running in these ADEM elections; to represent the people of AD74 and ensure that candidates and elected officials represent the will of the people. When I cast a vote to endorse a candidate it will be for a candidate that represents the people not unethical-corporations. And, when I vote on a resolution I will consider what the people of AD74 would want. It will be my duty to take your wants and needs into consideration as I will be representing YOU at our Convention in May when we vote in a new chair for our state party as I vote on things at or state Central Committee meetings!
It is time we start holding candidates accountable for the Democratic platform; the people’s platform. I am a progressive. I support: Medicare for all, tuition free college and trade schools, housing as a human right, campaign finance reform, common sense gun control, immigration reform, human rights and equality for all people no matter their gender, race, age or sexual orientation.
At Convention 2018 I was instrumental in seeing that the candidates for CD45 would be able to get the signatures they needed to bring the endorsement to the floor. I called the chair of the Progressive Caucus and asked her if they could come to the Bernie Bash to get signatures! They were granted permission and were able to get the signatures needed.
I have been a Congressional appointed alternate to the County Central Committee for 8 years, and a dues paying member for the last 8 years, I am a member of the Progressive Caucus for the last 8 years and have been to every Convention for the last 8 years, and a member of Progressive Democrats of America for the last 6 years. I am also a member of Los Amigos of Orange County for the last 9 years. I have worked on 3 Congressional campaigns, 1 water district campaign and was honored to be selected to be an Elector to go to Sacramento and cast our vote for President 2016.
I know together we can make change! I want to hear your concerns. Will you join me?
As a public university faculty, I am running for Assembly District 74 (AD74), because I am fed up of the establishment office holders taking over. I am many things, but I am an unapologetic union leader and progressive activist first and foremost. I am a fighter, a true humanitarian who helps people in need no matter of their color, gender or religion. I am an active volunteer with Casa Cornelia in San Diego to advocate for asylum seekers and an active volunteer with Friends of Orange Country Detainees (FOCD) which explicitly focuses on vulnerable asylee cases. As FOCD volunteer, I visit ICE detainees in Orange County jails, where the detainees are housed. I am a member of Progressive Democrats of America, a member of Progressive Caucus, a union member, – California Faculty Association, and most importantly a pledged delegate of DNC- Bernie Sanders 2016. I am the Chair for Political Action Committee at CSU-Dominguez Hills (one of the most underfunded campuses in CSU system). My students are predominantly Black and Hispanics, and I have stood up with them against the social and economic injustice on campus and off campus. I consistently advocate for my students on state capital and local level.
This cycle is very important as we have to elect California Democratic Party (CDP) Chair. We had a disastrous CDP Chair election in 2017 and again the establishment forced its weigh in and elected a Chair that was removed for ethical misconduct. I am committed to support a Chair who is from the people and for the people versus the long- held political office establishments. I am confidence, I alongside with other progressive delegates can reform the culture of the California Democratic Party and rebuild the trust that has been broken. I am devoted bringing the voices of diverse communities into light. I believe the best way to organize a change is at the local level.
I will be humbled and honored to receive your vote and hope to work with you to further the “True Progressive” causes of the Democratic Party in our community, state and national level.
Vote for Samila.
I, a woman named CRAIG BEAUCHAMP, would be honored to continue to serve as your Progressive Delegate for the people and communities of the 74th Assembly District (AD) to the California Democratic Party (CDP) for the 2019-2020 term. I have been and am active in the Orange County Democratic Party and the CDP since 2009. I want to see grassroots progressivism take a stronghold in the CDP. I will represent the people in my Community who feel strongly about these progressive issues: single-payer healthcare, free education from pre-school through community college, a Green New Deal, overturning Citizens United with campaign reform, common sense and effective gun control, humane immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients, criminal and prison reform, and above all else Equality for All. These mid-term elections demonstrated that Progressive Democrats can win.
However, there are still changes to be made on both the state & federal level to clean up the Democratic Party image and expand its message to include and not alienate the working class and rural communities. California, a leader on most of these issues, is the most progressive state in the Union, but the CDP is in disarray and in need of progressive and forward-thinking leadership. Right now, the CDP is without a chair and it is time for new progressive leadership to take the helm and to keep California at the forefront of progressive legislation setting the example for other States to follow. Kimberly Ellis, who came within a few votes of winning the Chair of the CDP in 2016, can be that progressive leader. I supported her then and have pledged my support for her now. These are some of the reasons I am running again to be your delegate from the 74th AD, to work for those progressive changes within the CDP.
As a community activist since high school days in Laguna, I’ve also been a very active Democrat since before I could vote. and in every city I’ve lived since leaving CA in 1977. This past election I phone-banked, supported and/or stumped for Mayor Foley & Councilman Chavez in Costa Mesa, for Cottie PN in the 74th AD, Harley Rouda & Katie Porter for Congress. Let me continue to be your delegate for progressive values at the CDP 2019-2020.
I am attorney who provides service mostly to the working poor in Santa Ana.
I want your VOTE! Thank you, Craig J. Beauchamp
I believe in the power of grassroots and I believe in the power of the people. That is why I am running in these ADEM elections; to represent the constituents of my assembly and ensure that our candidates and elected officials represent the will of the people. When I cast a vote to endorse a candidate or draft a resolution, it will be for a candidate that represents the people.
The Democratic Party has a great platform that includes many of the issues I support. It is time we start holding candidates accountable for our platform; the people’s platform. I am a Progressive. I support: Single Payer Healthcare, Tuition Free College and Trade Schools, Criminal Justice Reform, a Green New Deal, Campaign Finance Reform, Common Sense Gun Control, Immigration Reform, Human Rights and Equality for All.
I am an organizer with Our Revolution SoCal OC, a member of California For Progress, a Climate Reality Leader, and a founder of the Green New Deal SoCal Coalition. I am inspired by my community and appreciate being able to walk the walk when it comes to many of the progressive ideals I value.
Together, we will accomplish great things.

I am running because I strongly believe that we need a new bolder leadership culture in our party so we can protect our Blue Wave. Because we can not be the party of the main street and Wall Street at the same time. We can not be the Party of “Yes We Can” and “No We Cannot” at the same time. We need a strong voice for small “d” democratic reform. We need more investment in grassroots organizing so we advance Socioeconomic Justice, Immigration Reform, Workers Rights, Marriage Equality and Medicare For All, Sensible Gun Control, Green New Deal, Women Reproductive Health, and Animal Rights.
I am a college professor where I teach at several universities across Southern California. I’m a Community Builder, Game Changer and a Mentor. As a lifelong Progressive Democrat and grassroots community organizer for the past two decades, I was honored to be elected and serve within the ranks of our Democratic Party in different capacity. I served as an Executive Board Member (3 Terms), Assembly District Delegate (3 Terms), Past Chair of the Democrats of Greater Irvine, a 2016 DNC Delegate, a 2016 DNC Candidate, the chair of the Arab American Caucus & ranking member of the Affirmative Action State Standing Committee. Since my election as a delegate in 2013, I never missed a convention or an executive board meeting, and made sure that Orange County presence is noticed.
As the Chairman of the Arab American Caucus, I played an instrumental role in community organizing, capacity building, and coordinated campaigns for Progressive Democratic candidates across the state, up and down the ballot. I also created and set up one of its kind training seminars on CA DEM Party Structure so we ensure that new Democrats feel welcomed, stay engaged and contribute to the growth of the party.
As a ranking member of the Affirmative Action Committee, I fought for creating constituency liaisons to expand the outreach to emerging and marginalized communities, which made party leadership fund and create GOTV short video messages to help turning Orange county Blue.
As the Chair of DGI in 2016, under my leadership, Irvine became BLUE CITY for the first time in its 45 years history, doubled the paid membership and made the club number one in finance, organizational structure and reform. In the 2016 elections, I helped with engineering Democrats WIN in 6 swing states.
I humbly ask for your vote.
Following the path of many before me in working to reform, transform, and improve the Democratic Party, I am running to represent ‘we the people’ so it may work for ALL of us. I am proud to say that I was inspired to get involved in politics by Bernie Sanders and many other grassroots organizers and activists in 2016. I’ve been dedicated to our political revolution ever since, and my life goal is to simply become one of the most effective activists and organizers I possibly can in order to help implement the People’s Platform. Priority number one is getting money out of politics. The Democratic Party platform makes it clear that we must end Citizens United. It reads: “We need to amplify the voices of the American people through a small donor matching public financing system. We need to overhaul and strengthen the Federal Election Commission so that there is real enforcement of campaign finance laws. And we need to fight to eliminate super PACs and outside spending abuses. Our vision for American democracy is a nation in which all people, regardless of their income, can participate in the political process and can run for office without needing to depend on large contributions from the wealthy and the powerful.” Being a true Democrat should mean to follow our party’s platform. That means not accepting problematic campaign contributions from special interests. This money flooding our elections is the root of the corruption in our government. How can we talk about democracy when millionaires are buying elections? Until we end the stranglehold that the wealthy and powerful have on our government, we will have no chance of joining almost every other major country on earth in providing Medicare for All, a living wage, and tuition free public college. Until we have the political will to do the right thing, we can’t expect to stop the ever-widening gap between the rich and the poor and, even more pressing, the death of our planet. We cannot expect to ban fracking and mitigate the effects of climate change when the fossil fuel industry controls our elections and, in some cases, even writes our laws. Our government is bought and paid for, and now is the time to stand up, fight back, and let them know that the American people have had enough. We aren’t going away until we put the power back into the hands of the people, where it belongs, once and for all.
Hi, my name is Ron Varasteh. It would be my honor to earn your vote. I’m sure you remember, in 2016 I was our Democratic Party nominee for U.S. Congress against Mimi Walters for District 45.
Instead of Democracy, we have Plutocracy. With Trump in the White House, Corporatocracy is directly in our faces. Most corporations are highly unethical and are co-opting our governments to write laws benefiting their monopolies and blocking their competition.
When they become too big to fail, taxpayers are expected to bail them out. I like to call this Corporate-Welfare for entitlement corporations. Our Democratic-Republic has devolved into Crony-Capitalism. This is not what our founding fathers envisioned for us.
The Democratic Party used to be the party of the people. For too many decades, many in our party believe a Democrat can only win, if they’re a more compassionate Republican. Well, I say, no elected Democrat will ever be a better Republican than the Republicans.
If you elect me for another 2-year term, I will continue to fight to return the Democratic Party to the People and I will continue to fight moneyed special-interest lobbyists from hijacking our elections.
I’ve been a delegate to the state party for nearly a decade. I’ve been hosting Orange County’s Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) for 6-years. I’ve been the President of West OC Democrats for 6-years. I am the current Chair of Irvine Democrats. Thank you for your considerations.
