AD14: Contra Costa & Solano Counties

What are Assembly District Delegates?

Every two years, the CA Democrats elect 7 self-identified females and 7 other than self-identified females from each Assembly District in CA as delegates to the state party. Those who are elected will have a chance to vote for the new party chair and other leadership. The race is hotly contested and will determine how welcoming, grassroots-focused and innovative the party becomes or how beholden it will remain to big money interests.

Delegates elect Party officers, endorse candidates for statewide, legislative and congressional office, attend the annual convention, network with other Democrats, represent your constituency, promote the California Democratic Party agenda, and vote to endorse resolutions and ballot measures.

You get 14 votes for delegates, 1 of which you must also vote for Executive Board Representative.

Detailed Information

Ryan Apperson

I am a local attorney dedicated to helping working people. I have represented thousands of workers through collective bargaining, grievances, and employment discrimination cases. I have served the past two years as ADEM delegate and also a leader in Contra Costa Young Democrats. I’ll fight to engage voters, resist the Trump agenda, and finally pass single payer in California.

Harry Baker

For years I have organized for single payer healthcare in California inside my union and out. Currently, I co-chair SEIU 1021’s Committee on Political Education. I am a delegate to the Labor Council and have been active in the Racial Justice Coalition with the effort to stop expansion of the County jail.

Edi Birsan
I currently serve as a Concord City Councilmember, recently Mayor, but I’ve been a longtime Progressive Democrat in our community. I will continue to be a leader in the fight for quality jobs, affordable housing, and open space in the region. I believe good government means transparency, inclusion, and participation.
Hakeem Brown

I am a Vallejo native & long time community & labor advocate.  I was recently elected to Vallejo City Council.  I also serve as the 2nd VP of the NAACP Vallejo Branch, Region 2 Director for the CADEM African American Caucus & was voted the 2017 Rising Star for the Solano County Democratic Central Committee.

Gabriel Haaland

I am a longtime labor and community organizer, currently for SEIU 1021, and a former President of the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club. I also serve on the Executive Board of the Contra Costa Labor Council. Additionally, I was honored as Labor Activist of the Year by the Solano Democratic Party. A lifelong Democratic activist, I’ll continue the fight for civil rights and economic justice for all.

Morgan Lindsay Hannigan

I’m co-founder of Solano RRN – protecting our immigrant siblings, co-founder of Neighborhood Rising – bringing needed resources to our community, Vallejo Human Relations Commissioner, I’m active in caucuses (Latino, African American & Labor), a Vallejo Branch NAACP executive board-member, and a small business owner. I’m running to protect all Californians from being left behind.

Satinder S Malhi

As a first generation Sikh-American and lifelong progressive Democrat, I have worked on a wide-range of civil rights issues, fighting for the rights of ALL Americans. I am also a co-founder of Contra Costa Young Democrats and a former Executive Board member of Contra Costa Democratic Party.

AnaMarie Avila Farias

I am a life-long Democrat and third generation Martinez resident, a parent, and former Councilwoman who has contributed over 25 years to the community through my public service, policy work and community leadership. I will use my experience in housing and economic development to build a more diverse and stronger district.

Rebecca Barrett

I’m a life-long Democrat. I began my career working for Tom Torlakson at the Department of Education. Today I’m the President of the Contra Costa Young Dems, and a Contra Costa Community College Boardmember.  We need to ensure that our party is safe for women, LGBTQ+, and young people to organize and work.

Kathryn Durham-Hammer

As a progressive Democrat, community organizer, activist, and upstander, I stand for human rights and equity for all. Trained as a lawyer, I now run Glow Fitness and Indivisible ReSisters Walnut Creek.  I chaired the successful 2018 Measure J campaign for safe, quality MDUSD schools, and am Vice President of the Diablo Valley Democratic Club.

Bambi Marien
I am a union representative and proud member of UFCW Local 5. I come from a multi-cultural background and was raised in a Union household. I know the importance of fair employment and safety in the workplace. I lead bilingual trainings to help educate workers of their rights and help maintain safe work environment for workers.
Rachel Tolmachoff

I am Family Nurse Practitioner and a lifelong progressive activist. In early 2017 I organized Swing Left Contra Costa, partnered with local CA-10 Democrats, and helped create a ground campaign to flip the Republican congressional seat, elect Dems locally, and engage new volunteers. It worked!  As your Delegate, I will advocate for party investment in similar successful grassroot models.

Amy Scott-Slovick
As a 20-year registered nurse and member of California Nurses Association, I help educate, mobilize, and organize my fellow nurses to fight against health care costs, big PHARMA greed, wage stagnation, and the housing crisis. We need bold, progressive solutions.
Amy Hines-Shaikh
