AD16: Alameda & Contra Costa Counties
What are Assembly District Delegates?
Every two years, the CA Democrats elect 7 self-identified females and 7 other than self-identified females from each Assembly District in CA as delegates to the state party. Those who are elected will have a chance to vote for the new party chair and other leadership. The race is hotly contested and will determine how welcoming, grassroots-focused and innovative the party becomes or how beholden it will remain to big money interests.
Delegates elect Party officers, endorse candidates for statewide, legislative and congressional office, attend the annual convention, network with other Democrats, represent your constituency, promote the California Democratic Party agenda, and vote to endorse resolutions and ballot measures.
You get 14 votes for delegates, 1 of which you must also vote for Executive Board Representative.

Now more than ever, in a Trump era and period of socioeconomic insecurity, we need leaders who inherently understand the needs of our district. I have direct insight into the needs of each population personally and professionally as a Latina first-generation American, special education tutor, SEIU Local 2015 union member, and single mother of a childhood brain cancer survivor. I am a former bilingual science teacher and appointed member of the Disability Caucus Educational Committee.
In addition, I have the leadership, creativity, and foresight to advance our party as a former Bernie Sanders delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention, author of the 2016 DNC draft proposal for Disability and Caregiver Rights, and creator of the Biology Scholars Program Health Promotion Division and the Disabled Students’ Program Disability Peer Advisor Program at the University of California, Berkeley.
I’ve lived in Livermore CA my entire life and have watched the political shifts in the Bay Area throughout the years. Political activist, civil rights activist, Bernie Sanders campaign volunteer, and environmentalist. I want to join the progressive movement within the Democratic party and help the fight to improve healthcare, wages and the quality of life for my fellow citizens. In today’s world, it is imperative that we stand up for our environment and provide protections locally since we cannot depend on the Federal Government.
Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party Progressive Caucus, Northern Districts. The Progressive Caucus is the largest caucus in the state party. I am committed to making the California Democratic Party a political organization of diversity, decency, and integrity.
I promise to push the party in forwarding a bold Progressive agenda for Middle Class and Working Class families.I am a community activist — working on Democrat campaigns from California to New York. I have worked with organizations like Health Care for California, Swing Left, Tracy Go Team (to flip CD#10), OFA, PDA, Chair of Our Revolution Contra Costa, and producer of programs on Pacifica Radio and The Young Turks.
It would be an honor to represent Progressives of our district in the California Democratic Party. In this Trump era, Democrats must double their fight for Education, Healthcare, and the Environment. This is California’s moment. We must lead the nation.
I believe that the party as at its best when it is working for those with the least power and the softest voices. For the last decade I have worked to enrich the lives of my students as an education instructor, first at the Job Corps and now at a continuation high school. I will take the experience of working with and helping lift up disadvantaged youth to the convention floor.
I also work to form coalitions and advocate for issues important to the region and beyond. I am the founder of Swing Left Tri-Valley, and a co-founder of several groups such as Bart2Livermore. I believe that our parties strength comes from building coalitions and listening to diverse opinions. As an ADEM Delegate I will continue to work with the community and advocate for their needs. I will fight for the values of our party and help us elect candidates who will work to shape a better tomorrow for us all.
Having been an Assembly District 16 Delegate for the past two years, I wish to be re-elected for another to years to continue working toward the goals we began working toward in 2017 – and have already made so much progress toward achieving since then! As an ADEM and now former Vice-Chair of the Progressive Caucus, I’ve helped us come a long way toward reconnecting the Democratic Party with its roots – the people!
If re-elected, I want to push for the party to continue its willingness and ability to organize at the grass roots level and press for continued transparency so that everyone’s voice is heard in the debate what will shape our party’s future.
