AD36: Antelope Valley

What are Assembly District Delegates?

Every two years, the CA Democrats elect 7 self-identified females and 7 other than self-identified females from each Assembly District in CA as delegates to the state party. Those who are elected will have a chance to vote for the new party chair and other leadership. The race is hotly contested and will determine how welcoming, grassroots-focused and innovative the party becomes or how beholden it will remain to big money interests..

Delegates elect Party officers, endorse candidates for statewide, legislative and congressional office, attend the annual convention, network with other Democrats, represent your constituency, promote the California Democratic Party agenda, and vote to endorse resolutions and ballot measures.

You get 14 votes for delegates, 1 of which you must also vote for Executive Board Representative.

Detailed Information

Isaac Lieberman

My name is Isaac Lieberman – I fight for Racial, Social, Environmental, & Economic Justice for All, & I fight to make our party the champion of justice for struggling & working people that it was during the time of FDR & ELEANOR! Let’s get to work restarting that 40 years of Democratic control!

According to IPCC, we are barely 11 years from irreversible, planetary damage if we don’t reverse course.  In a similar Climate Crisis explained by Chris Hedges, Venus once had water, but feedback loops ended that, and it’s now 800 degrees there. (

Nancy Pelosi’s millions in campaign contributions are not going to help re-elect Democrats on an 800° planet earth!

But despite this sword of Damocles hanging over our planet, Pelosi and others in Congress are opposing the select committee on The Green New Deal in favor of a sham climate committee fighting for “energy independence”, a phrase often used to justify the worst kinds of fossil fuel extraction like fracking.

I, too, cried when Obama was elected president, but he now brags to Houston oil billionaires, as he raises millions for a right-wing think tank, that he crammed EVEN MORE billions into their corrupt accounts as he made US fossil fuel production explode to levels never before seen.

That’s a far cry from FDR’s “These Economic Royalists hate me, & I WELCOME their hatred!” as HE took on and took DOWN the greedy fat rat criminal Capitalists of HIS day. But they’ve risen again and taken control, destroying our democracy, and nearly destroying the planet’s ability to sustain human life to boot.

I’m committed to the Green New Deal to end the climate crisis and create millions of good paying jobs, to getting California & the US to provide healthcare as a human right-Medicare for All, to criminal justice reform & the movement for Black Lives, to public colleges and universities that are BOTH tuition-free AND debt-free, to Just Transitions, to organized labor, & to getting billionaires and corporations to pay their fair share.

I also support the fight to get big corporate money out of politics with CLEAN MONEY, full public campaign finance reform, to overturn Citizens United with a constitutional amendment “MONEY IS NOT SPEECH, CORPORATIONS ARE NOT PEOPLE,” to investigate & impeach Trump, Kavanaugh, & others who abuse the public trust.

Please vote for Isaac Lieberman. Thank You!

As a SoCal native & graduate of both UCLA & College of the Canyons, I’ve lived here most of my life. I love to travel and learn, but there is no place I’d rather live.

As a delegate, I’ll bring people together, organizing here & nationwide to strengthen our progressive movement as exemplified by Gandhi, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, MLK, Prof. Robert Reich, Sen. Bernie Sanders, AOC,  many others.

A long time environmental activist, I became political after seeing that many of our environmental problems require political involvement to solve. I have received awards from the LACDP and the Sierra Club, I have been a citizen lobbyist for the environment locally, in Sacramento, and in Washington, DC.

I have made calls and canvassed for Democratic candidates from coast to coast. I have organized and hosted dozens of phonebanks, barnstorms, and canvassing events, and continue to do so.

If you share my progressive and liberal values, if you want to see our party live up to the promise of its Democratic wing, if you want the nation to live up to the promise of our Declaration of Independence & Bill of Rights… then please vote for me. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men [and women] to do nothing.” – Edmund Burke. Thank you for being involved and for encouraging others, too! Together we can make a difference for ours and our precious children’s futures. Please contact me anytime to be included on our EPAA (Environmental & Political Action Alert mailing list) to ask questions, or just to stay in touch.

Margaret Finnstrom

Hi, my name is Margaret Finnstrom. I was born and raised in Southern California, and I have a Finance Degree from Cal State Northridge. I have lived in Santa Clarita, and I have been actively involved in Southern California Democratic clubs for the last ten years. I care about our community, and I enjoy being involved to help make changes that impact our state and country. I have volunteered to register voters and phone banked for Democratic candidates. I am passionate on issues such as Medicare for All, Income Inequality – fair wages for all workers, the environment, protecting the elderly, improving public schools, and equal rights for everyone. Elect me as your delegate, and I will vote on candidates that share the same values to make our country a better place for everyone.

Laurel Forrest

Our State needs to ramp up our active support for racial justice, environmental protection and economic Justice for all Californians. Together, we can make our Democratic Party the champion of justice for struggling and working people that it was during the time of FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt! Let’s get to work restarting those proud years of Democratic leadership and become the renewed leaders of the 21st Century!

We are only a few years away from irreversible Global Warming and planetary damage if we don’t change course from the recent past of wasteful contamination of our environment.

Sadly, some of our Democratic leadership in the Congress pursue “Energy Independence” –- but that justifies the worst kinds of fossil fuel extraction like fracking. Instead, our Planet Earth needs sustainable and renewable energy sources, mainly solar, plus wind and other clean-generated power.

The years of Republican control over Congress and the Senate have visibly undermined our democracy and nearly destroyed the planet’s ability to sustain human life. Recent money-driven Presidential Orders reversed decades of progress for environmental, climate and wildlife protection.

As a Delegate, I will work for programs to end the climate crisis and create millions of well-paying jobs, get California and the US to provide healthcare as a human right: “Medicare for All.”

Promote criminal justice reform and Black Lives movement. Our society, our national and state economies will thrive under the proposed tuition free and debt free public colleges and universities. We need to impose on billionaires and corporations to pay their fair share and reverse the tax boondoggle for the richest 1 percent!

Public campaign finance reform is vital, to reverse the disastrous Supreme Court decision “Citizens United” case with a constitutional amendment. Remember, despite the big-money hype: “Money is not speech and corporations are not people!”

To survive, our democracy must safeguard the investigations of the many misdeeds by the “Trump World” characters and prosecute and remove all those who abuse the public trust.

If you agree and want strong advocacy in our Democratic Convention, then please vote for Laurel Forrest. Thank You!

Kam Koford

I am retired and I want to be involved in every way possible with the Democratic Party.  I want to represent the people of my area and I can devote my time.  I am interested in becoming a delegate because I care about the people living in our area and the power we have as a group and the values that benefit society and I believe that through the assembly, we can make a significant impact on people’s lives.  I hope you will select me so that I can contribute to the improvement of our community and society at large. Thank you.

Ann McKeown

I want every person in this great country to be able to thrive. My commitment to work for this change began when I was in elementary school, working to organize our church to participate in the Farm Workers’ Grape Boycott. As more and more people joined, I got to see that individual people taking collective action can truly make a difference. When I met one of my childhood heroes, Dolores Huerta of the United Farm Workers, here in Palmdale this autumn, I could hardly believe we were standing together. That is what it takes; good, honest, hardworking people standing and working together for all of us.

I emigrated from Canada to California with my older daughters more than 20 years ago, married my husband, added to our family, and became a citizen. Having experienced the immigration system first hand, I can only say ‘we can, and must, do better! When I first arrived, I started volunteering with the County Healthcare Van, finding sites to offer weekly health clinics for people without health care. After a few years, I could see that there was still great need and no change in policy. I started registering voters in 1999 and haven’t stopped since, standing outside Albertson’s, outside the courthouse, outside at Antelope Valley College, and going door to door. I became involved in campaigns, phone-banking, and canvassing. My teaching and ministry background has helped a lot in community organizing. After the 2016 election, I joined Wake-Up Indivisible, and with friends I met there, started a group called Building the Base, Face to Face. Beginning in 2017, Building the Base canvassed several times every month for two years, knocking on hundreds of doors, listening to voters’ concerns and encouraging them to get involved. Having listened to the hopes and dreams of so many people, I want to carry their voices to the state and national level.

Californians are resilient and visionary, both characteristics much needed in Sacramento and Washington. We the people need to make sure that the leaders and candidates we select and elect have integrity and honesty, and run and lead with transparency. I want to work as a delegate both for and with you; I am committed to working hard to improve the local, state, and federal Democratic Party so that together we may all thrive.

Tae’lor Moore

I’ve lived in the Antelope Valley for my whole life. Currently, I’m attending Antelope Valley College and I have plans to transfer to a UC in 2019. I’m studying sociology and my ultimate goal is to become a lawyer. I’m very active in the community, I’ve been dedicated to making the AV a better place by doing my best to ensure equity for all. I am a volunteer for the Lancaster Community Advisory Committee, PESA, and I am the President of the AVC sociological society, a member of the law scholars and honors society. I’ve assisted with many political campaigns.

Wade Alexander

My name is Wade Alexander and I am running to be a delegate for the 36th Assembly District.  I . have been an active participant in local, state and national campaigns.  I have championed progressive causes ranging from immigration reform and gun control to standing with Planned Parenthood. I am currently the First Vice President of the Democratic Club of the High Desert.  I was also the recipient of the 2018 Democrat of the Year award for the 36th Assembly District.  If elected, I will do my best to honorably fulfill my duties as delegate and proudly represent the people of the 36th Assembly District.

Chris Humphreys

Hello my name is Christopher James Humphreys, and it is my goal to represent both my district and a progressive forward thinking agenda within our current democratic party. I have experience interning in several democratic campaigns over the years and through those experiences, have learned both what it takes to win elections and just what it means to be a part of something greater than myself.

My key issues are as follows

1. The need to push for green solutions to modern needs (I.E. energy and jobs)

2. Reform in our prison and justice systems so that we can increase success and reduce recidivism

3. Even out the economic playing field, increasing opportunities for individuals with drive regardless of what economic class they were born into.

4. Address out of control rent hikes and increases in living expenses.

5. To fight for our unhoused neighbors that need a helping hand up rather than a boot to jail.

6. Support for local small businesses, so that our community can grow and provide employment opportunities of a more personal nature.

7. A focus on increasing access to low cost or free mental health treatment.

8. Single payer healthcare, that is focused on providing the best care our society can provide.

9. Election reform that removes large corporate donors in favor of small dollar donations or public funding.

10. Ranked choice voting in Californias primary and presidential elections so that we the people will no longer be worrying about voting for the lesser of two evils.

This is my ten point platform and sets the tone for the type of representation you can expect when you elect me Christopher James Humphreys to participate in our great democratic party.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration,

It would be a great honor to have your vote so that I may give a voice to the voiceless.

V. Jesse Smith

My name is V. Jesse Smith, and I have been a Democrat all  my life. I believe in direct action and progressive politics. I have lived in the Antelope Valley, Palmdale in particular, for more than 20 years. As a community activist, I have worked to successfully change housing laws in our community, and to stop racial profiling of people of color in Lancaster, Palmdale and the surrounding community.

As we prepare to usher in change in 2020 on the federal, state and local level, we need active, progressive, visionary and disciplined leadership to motivate, organize, strategize and galvanize democrats to the polls to defeat #45 in the White House.

As a Delegate of the 36th Assembly District, I am committed to mobilizing democrats in my community to turn out in record numbers to the polls and create a blue wave all across the state of California for the purpose of enacting progressive legislation that will protect the rights of all people in our community.

As we successfully turned the 25th Congressional seat from RED to BLUE with the election of Congresswoman Katie Hill, we can do the same in all areas of the 36th Assembly District.

The time to make a difference is now. I am ready to make that difference with your help. Thank you for your support!

Matthew Wheeler

My name is Matthew Wheeler and I have lived in the 36th Assembly District for most of my life. I love our community, I understand our community and I would be honored to be a progressive voice for our community. Whether it is fighting for reproductive justice/ women’s rights, fighting mass incarceration or advocating for common sense Gun Legislation, Medicare for All or protecting Marriage Equality, Social Security and our Unions…I want to be a voice for change and I humbly ask for your vote.
